A limited edition letterpress print for the fourth edition in the second volume of my quarterly project, the Cloudy Collection.

I made this illustration to accompany a story by Jason Roemer for the Ferocious Quarterly blog. The yin/yang dogs refer to the balance in the scene between the chaos of the dogs’ activities and the relative calm and shut-down attitude of the main character.

Every spring, the UNC Kidney Center organizes a walk/run fundraiser for their research. I’ve had the opportunity to work with them every year since their inception and I always have fun figuring out where to put the next Carolina Blue anthropomorphised kidney. This is the sixth year, so there are six kidneys.

My entry combines my love for hiking with my terrible sense of direction, along with a revival of my dormant Latin verb conjugation skills.

A limited edition letterpress print for the third edition in the second volume of my quarterly project, the Cloudy Collection.

The artist (me, in the cases below) is given three words chosen by the buyer, as well as a designation of “robot” or “monster.” Beyond those hints, the final image is up to me to complete. I’ve had a lot of fun with the project, and it is satisfying to know the work helps out great causes like Doctors Without Borders and Water.org.

Biodiesel used to be this incredibly rare niche industry where self-motivated individuals would go to their local greasy spoon to beg for used french fry oil to pour into their modified cars. I remember seeing something about it on 3-2-1 Contact as a kid. [it turns out it was corn ethanol on the show!]

Now there are hundreds of fueling stations that serve biodiesel alongside traditional gasoline. The periodical biodieselSMARTER asked me to create a map showing every known station that serves 99% or higher biodiesel (B99 or B100) in the United States, along with some facts and stories about the industry in general. The result is this special edition of the magazine that consists solely of the wall-sized 34″x22″ map.
