Cloudy Collection Show

I’m heading to Minneapolis today for our Cloudy Collection Exhibition at Pink Hobo Gallery! I hope to see some of you there! We’ll have a reception from 7pm-11pm, and in the back room will be the MIX kickoff event, Drink & Draw. It should be a fantastic weekend!

What if…?

I’m super-excited to be included in the lineup for a show curated by the awesome Threadless pro, Joe Van Wetering, and his friend and fantastic fellow Chicago artist Paul Octavious. My piece for the show supposes “what if we connected ALL of the dots?” Its title, “Mathematical Gems”, comes from the found book integrated into the painting.

What if… “asked artists and designers from all over the world to explore some ideas surrounding alternate universes and some generally out there themes. The parallel universes of more than 50 artists will collide in Chicago on August 20.” Yes, that is one-night-only at Chicago’s River Park North, though if you are not in Chicago they will post the art for sale online after the event.

And yes, that is an amazing lineup of folks – so great! If you get a chance to go see the show, I’d love to see photos!

Stumptown | 20/20 | TCAF | Special Editions

I have some things coming up! Also, stuff! Calendars at the ready!

First: I will be at Stumptown Comic Festival in Portland, OR, this weekend, April 16 & 17. I’ll have piles of Cloudy Collection prints, some comics, buttons, stickers, and more. Plus I’ll be taking on-the-spot commissions for cheap! I’ll have lots of drawing gear with me, like pens, brushes, pencils, watercolors, etc. so bring an idea and a few bucks! Find me at table D-5!

Second: I have a print in the “20/20 Vision, 4th Edition: The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking” group exhibition at Fire House Gallery in Louisville, GA. April 27 through May 29 (Opening Reception – Saturday, April 30, 7-9pm) That’s my 22″x30″ screen print for the show above, plus a detail of how the transparent layers turned out.

Third: I will be launching the first Cloudy Collection Special Edition for 2011 at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. The edition is made possible by the awesome and amazing Annie Koyama of Koyama Press, and features 15 different artists, custom slipcases, and a bunch of great art. After all the hubbub dies down (and during and in-between, too) I’m working away at my first official children’s book illustration project! I’ll show you what I can, but we’ll all have to wait until fall of 2012 for the big reveal!

Threadless 10th Anniversary Book

Last month I got an email alerting me to the fact that my Threadless shirt is in their new 10-year anniversary book. I opened up my copy to find my Shadow Bunny design on the first page-full of shirts! There is a lot of great work in the book, and I’m honored to be included!

Ferocious Quarterly

I was asked to send in some art for the first issue of the lovely and lovingly-crafted Ferocious Quarterly, and they specifically requested one of my Cloudy Collection prints. Hole Sweet Hole made for a good single-page vertical image. I’ll also be contributing original work to issue #2.

The wonderful German art tome publisher, Gestalten, put together an amazing collection of letterpress and screenprinted design-y art in the book Impressive. The Cloudy Collection got a wonderful pair of spreads in the book, and the editors kindly trimmed down my enthusiastic ramblings about the project.

I am a piler. I have always been a piler. I make piles out of mail, drawings, laundry, magazines, etc., like a lot of other creative people do, I think. It’s just a different way to organize. That is: not to. I beat back the piles every few months, but they always come back. It’s okay. I accept it. I am a piler.

Show the Love: Bacon ♥’s Eggs

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, my pals over at Vahalla Studios have launched a series of 18 prints called Show the Love. You can buy the entire set for just $50, or get each individual print (like mine!) for $10 apiece.

It’s a fantastic lineup of artists who have put together a lot of fun work! And if you’re in Kansas City, go by tonight, Feb 5th, from 6-10pm, to pick up a set in-person. Vahalla’s new digs are at 2111 Washington, Kansas City, MO.
