That One Spooky Night is an 80-page graphic novel for gradeshoolers, with three related stories that all happen one Halloween night in the same spooky town. These pages are filled with color, a great story by writer and storyteller, Dan Bar-el, and over 300 panels of comicky goodness.

I’ve put together a tiny little website to help everyone get excited about the book, including a trailer that I animated in my *ahem* spare time that I don’t have.

I’m going to be in Chicago this weekend to hang out with a bunch of awesome cartoonists and illustrators and you, too, at the Chicago Alternative [K]omics Expo. We’ll all be hanging out Saturday and Sunday, June 16 & 17, in Columbia College’s Ludington Building at 1104 S Wabash, 11am – 6pm both days, and it’s free and open to the public! I’ll be sitting over at table 42:

I’ll have all the stuff I had at TCAF last month, plus I’ll be bringing a few original drawings and a freshly printed stack of Wattameon minis, since I sold out of them in Toronto.

Having grown up in Evanston (just north of Chicago), I’m super excited to be going “home.” I hope to run into a few old friends (you hear me, old friends?), and since we’ll be so close, I’m going to make a point of popping over to the Field Museum to show my daughter some dinosaurs! There’s also the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Millennium Park right there. Come out and make a weekend of it! See you there!

I’ve been toiling away at many many busy projects, and I’m finally popping my head up to go out to Toronto for this year’s TCAF. It’s the best thing of its kind every year, and I love it so much I can’t describe. I’m sitting at table 153, back by the base of the stairs, beside the lovely wishing pond and several good friends, and potential new friends, like a few of the Adventure Time fellas!

I’ll have gobs of things (assuming I get all my baggage to come all the way to Toronto with me) such as: new t-shirts, new doodle/activity books (plus a DELUXE edition), a new mini-comic, new buttons (and how!), a reprint of my Three Bears comic along with the usual pile of gorgeous prints from Cloudy Collection, a few original drawings, and maybe some on-the-spot custom doodles, just for you?

On Sunday afternoon, May 6, I’ll be doing a tag-team Simple Characters drawing workshop for kids with Melissa Mendes. Come find us on the second floor from 3:45-4:30!

I love this show. It really is the most fun I have at this type of thing. I come home exhausted, but so thoroughly inspired to make more stuff, which is great, since I’ll be working on my next book with Kids Can Press for the rest of the summer!

Every spring, the UNC Kidney Center organizes a walk/run fundraiser for their research. I’ve had the opportunity to work with them every year since their inception and I always have fun figuring out where to put the next Carolina Blue anthropomorphised kidney.

I’m heading to Minneapolis today for our Cloudy Collection Exhibition at Pink Hobo Gallery! I hope to see some of you there! We’ll have a reception from 7pm-11pm, and in the back room will be the MIX kickoff event, Drink & Draw. It should be a fantastic weekend!

I have some things coming up! Also, stuff! Calendars at the ready!

First: I will be at Stumptown Comic Festival in Portland, OR, this weekend, April 16 & 17. I’ll have piles of Cloudy Collection prints, some comics, buttons, stickers, and more. Plus I’ll be taking on-the-spot commissions for cheap! I’ll have lots of drawing gear with me, like pens, brushes, pencils, watercolors, etc. so bring an idea and a few bucks! Find me at table D-5!

Second: I have a print in the “20/20 Vision, 4th Edition: The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking” group exhibition at Fire House Gallery in Louisville, GA. April 27 through May 29 (Opening Reception – Saturday, April 30, 7-9pm) That’s my 22″x30″ screen print for the show above, plus a detail of how the transparent layers turned out.

Third: I will be launching the first Cloudy Collection Special Edition for 2011 at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. The edition is made possible by the awesome and amazing Annie Koyama of Koyama Press, and features 15 different artists, custom slipcases, and a bunch of great art. After all the hubbub dies down (and during and in-between, too) I’m working away at my first official children’s book illustration project! I’ll show you what I can, but we’ll all have to wait until fall of 2012 for the big reveal!
